Well it's Valentine's Day, and I feel the need to get up on a soapbox for just a minute.
The other day in class, two girls were talking, and I heard their conversation:
Girl 1: What is your boyfriend going to get you for Valentine's Day?
Girl 2: I don't know, probably nothing.
Girl 1: That's stupid. Isn't he going to get you flowers, balloons...something?
Girl 2: I don't know if he will or not, but if I want something like that I can get it for myself.
I stepped in then, and told the "Girl 2" that I was proud of her.
In this life, you should make yourself happy, and not wait or expect someone else to do it for you. Sure it is nice, if someone surprises you with a "happy," but if they don't, then it's no reason to be down on yourself or think that you are not worthy!
I cannot tell you how many single women are posting on my Facebook feed about how Valentine's day "sucks" if your single. It's a bunch of "Woe is me," and "I don't know what to do with myself." I have never seen anything like it!
Maybe I am just hard hearted....and I know these ladies would argue that I am married and have someone, so I don't know how it is..
All I am saying is this: Make yourself happy!!! Buy yourself something nice. Treat yourself to a massage or pedicure. Exercise. Start a new class or hobby...whatever makes you smile! If you are happy with yourself, then love will come when you least expect it.
Soapbox aside, I know that loneliness and depression are real problems, and that it might not be so easy to "buck up" as I have proposed. I'm just really tired of these (grown) people who do nothing but complain all the time, and aren't doing anything to help the situation.
Ok. That is all. Happy Valentine's Day. LOL!
I agree with you!! Yesterday was really annoying looking at facebook. Either it was bragging or desperate self-pity.
ReplyDeleteWell said, I found myself really frustrated with most of what I read on social media on Valentine's Day. I don't recall every being so whiny when I was single and why everyone thinks it's not Valentine's Day unless you post a picture of flowers online is beyond me!
